Powerful Government

I realize that no newspaper will print this article. For that reason I will also tweet, facebook and blog it. I have just finished watching a movie called “V” for Vendetta. It was about a powerful government figure in England in the not too distant future. He used his power in government to destroy all opposition to anything he wanted to do. I was reminded of all that I have seen and heard about Adolf Hitler in the 1930 - 40’s Germany, how the fiery rhetoric of one man turned a whole country down the path to ruin. The tragic part about the whole situation is that many other powerful people in government saw what was happening , knew it was wrong, but would not stand for what they knew to be right. They were afraid of being called “unpatriotic” They just stood back and allowed the concentration and death camps to be built around them and pretended they didn’t know what was going on. They stench of thousands of decaying bodies can never be mistaken for something else, but yet the citizens of the nearby towns claim they didn’t know what was going on in these camps.
I seem to detect something similar happening in this country of ours. There was a time when it was considered more than appropriate, even their duties, for the newspapers to expose corruption, wrongdoing and coverups in government. In the not too distant past these people were protected as “whistleblowers” by the government, but now they are being persecuted as leakers of “classified secrets” or in the interest of national security. Any corruption in government, especially in the defense department will be classified as “national security”. Just because the corruption is in the government doesn’t make it any less wrong than anywhere else. And those persons who expose it need to be praised rather than imprisoned, i. e. wikileaks. If they lie to us about leaders of other countries and about who are terrorists and who are not, how can we believe them about anything. What will happen they accuse us because we speak out against them. Maybe you can’t see it happening but it is coming in the not so distant future. I can tell by how the news media keeps pushing these wars and destabilizing the middle eastern countries and all of our politicians go right along with them. And since wikileaks has exposed their hand, their organization is on the verge of being considered “terrorist”, just like all of those Arab nonprofit organizations were after 9/11 because they received contributions from their countries of origin. Where else would they receive funding from?
There are conspiracy theories about what actually happened on that infamous date in New York City. Whether you believe it or not, there are some within our government who are not above allowing or even taking part in such an event in order to convince us that we should go to war. Which department of the government do you suppose would have an interest in that happening? The very same one who is persecuting wikileaks. Make no mistake, it is not that government over there, they are just the surrogate. And what about that young American man whose constitutional rights are being denied? What department is persecuting him? They, in conjunction with the banks, control the news media, the United States Congress and the Supreme Court of the United States of America and “we the people” have done just like they did in Germany back in those days, stuck our heads in the sand as if nothing bad will happen if we just don‘t look. We are finally waking up to the tricks of the republican party, but now let us really see what is going on in every aspect of the political realm.

Enriching Politics

Failed senator Rick Santorum has decided to throw his hat into the ring for the republican nomination for president. How can a man who failed in a re-election bid for senator possibly think that he could be elected to the presidency of the unitee States? Well, I guess stranger things have happened. George W. Bush was elected not once but twice, so I stand corrected. It just goes to show that with so much corporate money being injected into politics on the republican side that anyone with any kind of name recognition can form a so-called "exploratory committee" and start enriching themselves. They have no shame. These are the same people who like to throw around words like "pander" and like to call people who don't agree with them "socialists" and "elitists". They have declared class warfare on the middle class in the name of "deficits"but they claim that others have declared war on the rich. How can they even suggest such a thing? Like I said, thy have no shame! Who can pander better than they? Look at how they suck up to Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh. Each of these people make such outrageous statements that you have to be completely stupid or willfully igniorant to believe anything they say. Even though they know these men are are liars, the republican politicians have to bow down and kiss their rings because they have such a large following. How's that for pandering? And who could be more elitist than those who rake in tens and hundreds of millions of dollars each year but are not willing to share their wealth. Do you realize that Rush Limbaugh makes above $350 million a year? I wonder how many jobs he has created in the last three years. I would venture to bet the number is not many. And it's the same thing with the heads of the corporations. They make hundreds of millions of dollars a year but they send American jobs overseas, complaining that they can't make any profits as long as they employ Americans. How elitist is that? So I can see why Mr. Santorum has decided to form that committee. It's the best way in the world to make millions of dollars without earning it. Yeah, I know, you think that they return that what's left of those campaign funds when the elections are over or that that money is contributed to other campaigns but that is not quite what happens. Dig a little beeper and find out for yourself. I really can't blame you, Rick. The American people made it possible for you to do what you do and haven't demanded that the loopholes be closed. It's time for the peole to take action to take corporate money completely out of politics. Contrary to the Supreme Court's recent ruling, corporations are not people. Let's start a campaign to put enough pressure on them to make them reverse the decision. One way to do it is to threaten to revoke their lifelong appointments if they continue to go against the wishes of the people. "We the people" do not have to take this lying down..

It Makes Sense?

As I sat watching a certain cell phone commercial I overheard the comment "it makes sense if you don't think about it". I believe that there are many in our government who believe that we are unthinking. How else can you explain the fact that we have been told for the last few years that if you give more tax breaks that it will broaden the tax base? They say that it will cause them to spend more money.which will bring more jobs which will bring in more taxes. I agree, it makes sense if you don't think about it. For many decades we have given tax breaks to the major oil companies to research alternative fuels. Why in the world would oil companies want to shoot themselves in the foot by enabling us to stop using what they supply. It makes sense if you don't think about it. They believe that we will vote allow them to turn medicare into a voucher system. That would limit everyone's medical benefits to $12,000-$15,000 a year. What would happen in case of catastrophic illness? If you are not rich your loved one would be left out in the cold because the burden would be on the family of that person. Yep, it makes sense if you don't think about it. We have been told that free trade would bring jobs into the country because of imports. Well the imports did come but the jobs went. They went to places where it was ten times cheaper to manufacture and then shipped back into the U. S. to be sold at the same prices as before. The manufacturers who moved their business are making profits hand over fist and do not have to pay any amount of tariffs at all. It makes sense if you don't think about it. We need fair trade not free trade! And there are many other things that have been done over the past thirty years since Ronald Reagan was president that have been pushed by conservatives that won't hold water, but have been accepted as gospel the majority. It doesn't make sense! Would people rather believe a lie than the truth? It seems so!

Democrats are Really Republicans

What is wrong with the democrats? They won't even put up a good fight. Since the deaths of Senators Byrd and Kennedy, there are no more leaders to speak out for the working class. They give in to any and all demands of the republicans. After we have spent all of our lives paying into social security and many years paying into medicare they are about to let the pubs destroy these vital programs. They will not insist that wealthy or corporations pay their fair share of taxes but instead they roll over. You can count on one hand those democrats who are willing to stand up for the working class.Recently there ther has been only one senator and one congressman who have the same views that I have and that is independent senator Bernie Sanders and congressman Dennis Kucinich. All the rest are starting to echo the republicans. They won't insist on raising taxes on the rich or insist on getting rid of corporate welfare or windfall profits taxes on the oil companies even though they have made record profits for five years running, at our expense. They used to claim there was an oil shortage but now they don't have to give a (supposedly) legitimate reason because no one will hold them accountable. Supposedly just last year there were regulations put in place to prevent just such such a thing from happening but just like every other law this president and this congress has passed, they have been watered down to the point of ineffectiveness. It was the same thing with the new consumer protection agency. Because of objections from the corporate community, the most qualified person, Mrs Sheila Baird, was not appointed to head the agency, Instead she was given the job of creating the agency, but top job was given to someone who had the blessings of the corporate community. It would have been better to not have created the agency at all. President Obama has lost my support. If he is the nominee again I won't vote for him. Neither will I vote for my own current senator again if the LA. democratic party chooses her as the nominee. Many people defend the president's actions, but to me he has not shown any leadership and neither has he stood strong on any issue. He quickly gave up on single payor health care, the public option, the Bush tax cuts, brought us into another war, has done nothing for consumer protections, has allowed the oil companies to continue to gouge us for gas prices. Neither did he support the union workers in Michigan, when during his presidential campaign he said that he would march with them for collective bargaining rights. He will have a hard row to hoe come electionseason again. If he is the nominee I don't think he'll make it. He has failed to speak out on many issues that would helped us but instead he has become the capitulator-in-chief. He voiced the idea that he preferred a republican congress to deal with and now he is well on the way to having one. If he caved in when he had a majority in both houses what will he do when he is facing republican majorities in both houses. It seems that the congress is now 75% republican even though there are more than 55 democratic senators and a democratic president. Mr. Obama, like many senators is a republican in democrats clothing and I am Mad As Hell about it. It's time for protests in America like they have recently had in Egypt and Libya to take our country back from the corporations, banks and arms dealers (Defense Department). Political democrats have become a part of the corporate establishment!
