Hi james,
The decision made by the senators we elect can have a major impact on our daily lives. So it makes sense that we actually elect them to office. Why, then, are some Republicans suggesting that right be taken away from us? »
Representative Jeff Flake told a Republican event in Payson, Arizona, that he thinks the United States should abolish the Seventeenth Amendment that allows voters to elect their own senators. Before the ratification of the Seventeenth Amendment, senators were elected through state legislatures. This was changed because the system led to corruption, allowing elections to be heavily swayed by monetary interests. »
Unfortunately, Flake is not alone on his view on this -- Indiana Senate Candidate Richard Mourdock, Missouri Senate Candidate Rep. Todd Akin, Texas Governor Rick Perry, and Sen. Mike Lee are some of the other "Seventeenther" Republicans.
You remember Rick Perry, right? That's right -- a guy who once ran for President doesn't trust your right to vote. It just can't get any more egregious. Tell the "Seventeenther" Republicans that Americans deserve the right to directly elect their representatives in the Senate. »
| Thanks for taking action!
